The Queensland-shot feature Don’t Tell has been screened as the Red Carpet Opening Night movie at this year’s Australian International Movie Convention on Sunday, October 9. A Q&A featuring the cast and crew followed.
Directed by Tori Garrett, Don’t Tell is a true story based on the book of the same title by lawyer Stephen Roache, who represented a sexual abuse survivor in a case against Toowoomba Preparatory School in 2001. The case resulted in the Anglican Archdiocese paying out compensation on the order of $800,ooo, and contributed to the formation of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
Rachel Griffiths, Jack Thompson, Aden Young, Sara West and Jacqueline McKenzie star, along with newcomer Kiara Freeman.
Producer Scott Corfield said of the film, “An important Australian film like Don’t Tell can only ever be brought to the screen when you have a cast and crew that completely invest themselves in the story and that’s exactly what we had with this film. I am so incredibly proud of the work everyone put into this inspiring true story and am thrilled to be finally showing it to an audience.”
The 71st Australian International Movie Convention runs until October 16 at Jupiters Gold Coast.
