Is it just us, or does the latest in Disney’s live action remake campaign seem more than a little middling? It’s sumptuously mounted, well (if rather obviously) cast, and that musical refrain hits us right in the memberberries, but the whole exercise seems pretty rote. Plus, the cursed house staff are terrifying – Chip is pure nightmare fuel.
Sure, you could argue that this is just an early trailer, but they’ve been building to this thing for a while now – there’s no excuse for the shoddy CGI that comprises the Beast’s (Dan Stevens) phizzog, or the weird pace, which aim for languid and romantic but comes across as sluggish end overplayed. At least Emma Watson comes across well.
Still, we could be wrong and the proof, as always, is in the pudding, which is being served to Australian cinema-goers from March 17, 2017.
