American actress Sofia Wylie, who appears as Buffy Driscoll in the Disney Channel series Andi Mack, will star in Back of the Net, an Australian tween comedy to be directed by Louise Alston (All My Friends Are Leaving Brisbane).
Written by Casie Tabanou (Married by Christmas) and Alison Spuck, the film follows science nerd Bailey (Wylie), who ends up at a soccer academy by mistake and winds up in a rivalry with star soccer player Evie, and goes on to lead her team against her enemy’s in the national finals. So, it’s a bit like The Karate Kid, but with balls.
The Steve Jaggi Company, who had great success recently when they imported fellow Disney alum Debby Ryan to star in Rip Tide, are producing, and filming is set to begin in Sydney later this month. More cast announcements are due soon.
