Andy Muschietti, who is already enjoying hella good buzz regarding his imminent adaptation of Stephen King’s horror doorstopper, IT, is not planning on resting on his laurels. Not only is he pegged to direct Hulu’s adaptation of the cult horror comic, Locke & Key (written by King’s son, Joe Hill, and well worth your time) but The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that he is now working hard to develop a movie based on the old Robotech Japanese cartoon franchise.

If you’re a nerd of a certain age (like, well, me) you’ll have fond memories of the sprawling science fiction saga, which saw Earth fighting back against successive waves of invading aliens using reverse-engineered giant robots. Modern audiences will recognise the show’s influence on the likes of Pacific Rim. Rumours of an Americanised big screen adaptation have come and gone over the years; at one point Tobey Maguire was set to both star and produce the project, while prior to Muschietti, Australian director James Wan was attached.

Whether Muschietti manages to get this one over the line is another thing entirely, but according to THR, “The project is a high priority for Sony and it is moving quickly.”
