Recently we were lucky enough to visit the set of the upcoming independent dark fantasy film, The School, which recently wrapped shooting at the old Gladesville Mental Hospital in Sydney. The feature directorial debut of Storm Ashwood, who also wrote the script, The School concerns a doctor, Amy Payne (Megan Drury), who finds herself drawn into a secret society of children who live in a parallel world after her own son goes missing. Bad Boy Bubby‘s Nicholas Hope and Home and Away’s Will McDonald co-star in a dark fable that draws its influences from Lord of the Flies, Peter Pan, and Guillermo del Toro’s darker oeuvre.

The School is currently in post-production at Fox Studios, and based on what we saw on set it’s gonna be the business – fantastic production design, grotesque make-up effects, a haunting atmosphere, and the general sense that it’s punching well above its weight for a low budget genre affair. In the meantime check out the behind the scenes videos the production team have been posting on their YouTube channel, and keep track of updates on the official Facebook page.
