We’ve known for a while now that the late, great, much missed Carrie Fisher had finished filming her scenes for the upcoming The Last Jedi before she passed, but now her brother, Todd Fisher, has confirmed that she will also appear in Episode IX, the concluding film of the new trilogy.

Speaking to The New York Daily News, Fisher said, “Both of us were [Carrie,s daughter, Billie Lord, and Todd] like, ‘Yes, how do you take her out of it?’ And the answer is you don’t. She’s as much a part of it as anything and I think her presence now is even more powerful than it was, like Obi Wan — when the saber cuts him down he becomes more powerful. I feel like that’s what’s happened with Carrie. I think the legacy should continue… To me, Star Wars is the holy grail of storytelling and lore and you can’t mess with it.”

It’s understood that we won’t be getting a Rogue One-style CGI stand in, but rather that Fisher’s performance will be pulled together from previously shot and unused footage. That doesn’t preclude the use of stand-ins or voice mimics, though – let’s hope they ca pull this off as seamlessly as possible. The alternative is a bit of a downer.
