What do critics know, right? Despite our own scathing review, Kangaroo Island has topped this week’s Australian Films at the Box Office, but that’s not really saying much. What is more notable is Jaws coming in at #4, 50 years after its initial release, and Caught Stealing coming in behind it despite so much promotion and such big stars. A24 couldn’t weave their magic with the English dub of Ne Zha 2 (or Eddington, which slipped out of the top 20 in week 2), and all the positive reviews in the world (and same date release in the US) from film nerds pretending that they love Troma, couldn’t get The Toxic Avenger to more than a $352 screen average on a monstrous 118 screens.
