You’d think that with the amount of kids going to see movies that the future of cinema is secure… but that said, new releases Magic Beach and Dragonkeeper couldn’t really compete against the sequels/franchises/studio releases, and should have potentially waited for another school holiday period to release. In terms of new films for grown-ups, chick flick We Live in Time fared best, whilst Wolf Man disappointed, especially when compared to the recent opening for fellow scarer Nosferatu. Lastly, awards darling Emilia Perez struggled with a $1500 screen average on only 59 screens, but hopefully word of mouth is strong for this rulebreaker from visionary Jacques Audiard, and that audiences who grew up on cinema get with the program!
