No media screenings for Lee Cronin’s The Mummy, which didn’t bode well, however it ended up opening ok, with a $3.7k screen average on 266 screens, proving that there’s still some life left in, um, putting a director’s name in the title, even if nobody has heard of them. Other new releases included actioner Fuze, which fizzled, Francois Ozon’s The Stranger, which continued to attract audiences following its very healthy festival run, and mobile phone game adaptation Umamusume: PRetty Derby – Beginning of a New Era, which like The Mummy, didn’t need critics to attract the punters.
