As the US threatens tariffs on imports from other countries in order to prop up its own industries, how about we recognise the impact of films from other countries on our own culture, let alone film industry.
Coming in at #1 this week we have the shield-waving Captain America, followed by the British Bridget Jones sequel and a Chinese animated blockbuster sequel in third. And, check out the spare change earned by Australian-produced films… As we shake in our boots at the possible theft of data and privacy from apps such as TikTok and DeepSeek, and tariffs placed on our exports, and our identity as Australian splintered further by the day, how about supporting Australian filmmaking and storytelling?! Just a thought.
