Babyteeth: First Look Images and Additional Cast Announced

February 11, 2019
With filming wrapping this week in Sydney, more cast announced for Babyteeth, along with first look images.

We are all excited to see Ben Mendelsohn return triumphantly to Australia, and now we have images to prove it!

Described as ‘a bittersweet comedy about learning to let go and finding grace in the glorious chaos of life. Milla is a supernova about to explode. When the seriously ill teenager falls madly in love with a small-time drug dealer, it’s her protective parents’ worst nightmare. But Milla is teaching those in her orbit how to live like you have nothing to lose’, Babyteeth is an adaptation of Rita Kalnejais play of the same name.

Announced today, Eliza Scanlen (Home & Away, Sharp Objects) is also returning to Australia to play the role of Milla, whilst Toby Wallace will presumably play the ‘small-time drug dealer’. Ben Mendelsohn and Essie Davis will play the parents.

Directing is Shannon Murphy, making her feature film debut after a string of TV gigs (On the Ropes, Rake, Sisters).

“I have loved every minute of directing this shoot with our glorious cast and dedicated crew,” said Murphy. “It has been a journey of discovering the comedic and dramatic tension within the Finlay family as they are forced to accept Moses, an intruder, into their already dysfunctional home.”

Producing is Alex White, with Jan Chapman as executive producer. “It’s been a true joy to watch our incredible crew bring this story to life,” said White. “Eliza Scanlen and Toby Wallace give breakout performances alongside the electrifying duo of Essie Davis and Ben Mendelsohn, who returned home to make this film with us. Babyteeth is about family and how far you go to protect the people that you love, and we’re thrilled to share this story with audiences.”

Babyteeth will be released in Australia by Universal Pictures, on behalf of Entertainment One, with international sales by Celluloid Dreams.

Let’s leave you with one more images of Mendo back on home turf.
