Australia’s Blackmagic Design Preferred by Apple

June 20, 2019
At Apple's recent Worldwide Developer Conference, Melbourne based film tech company, Blackmagic Design was cited a number of times as a preferred partner for its post-production software to compliment its new Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR monitor targeting Hollywood and filmmakers alike.

With Apple TV+ streaming to launch before the end of 2019, and the company’s recent announcement of its bid to get into the professional market through its Pro Display XDR, it looks certain that we will have a true competitor to the content stranglehold currently in place for Netflix around the world. Both Apple and Netflix value HD content, with the highest of standards for quality control on the content that they offer. If Apple is able to offer an end-to-end solution, they will be at an advantage in the streaming wars that are to come.

And, as announced recently at their Worldwide Developer Conference, they are looking to bring an Australian company with them.

To quote:

Performance to Transform the Pro Workflow

With up to 28 core Xeon processors, 56 teraflops of graphics performance and the groundbreaking Afterburner card, the new Mac Pro delivers performance that will transform pro workflows. A number of pro app developers are seeing amazing results that have never been possible in a single workstation.
  • Blackmagic Design brings full CPU and multi-GPU accelerated 8K real-time editing, effects and color correction in ProRes 4444 for the first time on any system.

Blackmagic offers camera and post-production solutions, and have been groundbreakers in making digital technological advances affordable for all types of users. Including Hollywood, on productions such as A Star is Born, Captain Marvel, Deadpool 2, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Solo: A Star Wars Story and Game of Thrones among many others.

We interviewed Blackmagic CEO, Grant Petty, recently.

Upon Apple’s announcement, he had this to say:

“DaVinci Resolve is the world’s most advanced color correction and online editing software for high-end film and television work. It was the first professional software to adopt Metal and now, with the new Mac Pro and Afterburner, we’re seeing full-quality 8K performance in real time with color correction and effects, something we could never dream of doing before. DaVinci Resolve running on the new Mac Pro is easily the fastest way to edit, grade and finish movies and TV shows.”

Bring on the future.
