Sydney director Charles Williams’ All These Creatures has won the Palme d’Or in the Short Film category at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

The 13 minute drama stars  Mandela Mathia, Yared Scott, and Melody Demessie, and follows an adolescent boy who attempts to untangle his memories of a mysterious infestation, the unraveling of his father, and the little creatures inside us all.

The film – Williams’ fifth directorial effort –  was one of eight films selected to compete from 3943 entries.

Elsewhere,  Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Shoplifters won the Palme d’Or for best feature, Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman took home the Grand Prize, Nadine Labaki won the Jury Prize for Capharnaüm, and a Special Palme d’Or was awarded to Jean-Luc Godard’s The Image Book.
