Upcoming investigative documentary The Opposition will be forced to make its world debut in an altered form following a decision from the New South Wales Supreme Court last week.

This follows a complaint made by former Papua New Guinean politician Carol Kidu, seeking an injunction against her inclusion in the film. As a result, The Opposition will be edited before its planned premiere at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in Toronto on May 3, 2016. Australian actress Sarah Snook will provide narration that will replace the redacted elements.

Directed by Hollie Fifer and produced by Rebecca Barry of Media Stockade, The Opposition follows the story of Joe Moses, the leader of the Paga Hill settlement in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, who fights a marathon battle in the court system to prevent his people’s homes from being cleared to make way for a five-star hotel and marina being developed by the Paga Hill Development Company. The film purports to examine the widening gap between justice and law, and to examine the problems inherent in the ethical development of emerging nations. No Australian release date has been set.
