Many view virtual reality as a new horizon for entertainment, while other industry professionals remain skeptical. Nonetheless, virtual reality has already infiltrated the market. Six virtual reality experiences were nominated for Emmy Awards a few days ago in the Interactive categories, according to .
“We were encouraged by the success of our flagship VR film Remember [pictured], which explores our relationship with technology and its influence on our reality,” said Kacevski.
Remember has been screened at over 11 international film festivals, including Cannes and Berlin. Recently, the film was selected for The Melbourne International Film Festival.
“Since Remember, we have developed an extensive slate of interactive and cinematic VR projects, which has attracted filmmaker partnerships and support from local government bodies like Screen Australia and Screen NSW,” Kacevski added.
The studio’s content will be distributed in virtual reality cinemas in Europe and China. Europe’s first virtual reality cinema had over 60,000 visitors last year and over 100 cinemas are expected to open this year in mainland China.
The Pulse Originals was recently selected as a charter member of Kaleidoscope VR, which will showcase their latest interactive program “Sky Kraken” on Kaleidoscope’s new funding platform.
Managing director of the studio Brett Heil said: “Remember has created many opportunities for us both at home and overseas. To date, the virtual reality discussion has been largely around hardware, but it is impossible for the market to grow as predicted without sufficient premium VR content.”
“One of the big questions being asked by investors and industry professionals alike is ‘how do you monetise VR?’” Heil said. “Initial demand for quality narrative-driven VR is encouraging and the data we are receiving regarding audience and box office will provide insight on the ROI we can expect as the market grows.”
