“The release of the Retrogression NFTs in conjunction with gaming and Metaverse integration is a new and exciting process of modernising film development, production and distribution,” says actor/filmmaker Anthony Hayes.
Striking while the iron is hot, Hayes recently directed and co-starred in Zac Efron headlining feature film Gold, then quickly launched Retrogression Film Crib, and is now financing a sci-fi film trilogy via a digital collection created on NFT marketplace Mogul Productions.
“As an alternative financing model, it allows filmmakers more creative freedom and to participate in first position in any profit participation from their creations. For too long, the creatives have been last in line, and Web3 and Film3 offer an incredible opportunity to meaningfully participate in the spoils,” says Hayes.
“This new model is not only a means to finance a film, but to engage NFT collectors, gamers, Metaverse communities and traditional audiences in a long simmering narrative partnership that feeds into the eventual release of the Retrogression sci-fi film franchise via our Film Crib virtual cinema chain.
“In the same way Star Wars takes us deeper into the worlds of supporting characters, and alternate micro narratives over time, NFT collections and gaming can help develop a long standing, deeper connection between filmmaker, narrative, character and audience, in a meaningful way.”
According to Deadline, Retrogression is “a dark dystopian sci-fi epic set 300 years in the future, where The Dark Army polices slave factories on an island called Omega.”
On brand, the NFT series will be named ‘The Dark Army’, with certain tiers giving holders executive producer credits, whilst other fan perks include set visits and an opportunity to appear in the films. The most valuable NFT will give holders access to character avatars that can interact in metaverses with the opportunity to Play to Earn in a unique gaming experience.
The collection will launch on the Ethereum blockchain, with a process that gives buyers an equal chance to score the various levels of NFT, including the super-rare offerings.
