I’m a multi-award winning Australian-American screenwriter, producer and published author, based in Los Angeles.

I was born in Melbourne, Australia in the groovy 1970s and raised in the vibrant ‘80s, with a knack for writing underdog and outsider characters across multiple genres.

My writing journey started unexpectedly when I joined a theatre group in L.A. and the women of the company were asked to whip up some comedy sketches for a show. None of us were pros, but we dove in headfirst and found it enormously rewarding. That leap of faith led me to create a sketch comedy web series [Vegan 101] which I wrote and produced that ended up winning a bunch of awards, and even had Eric Roberts guest-starring in it.

One of the highlights of my career was when my comedy feature, Sex, Drugs & Crow’s Feet, was the recipient of the Best Feature Screenplay Finalist from The Golden Script Competition. Alongside that, my short film scripts like Be Careful What You Ask For, The Magic Mirror, and Hypnagogia achieved acclaim, earning spots on The Red List on Coverfly.

Sex, Drugs & Crow’s Feet is making waves as an Official Selection/Nominee at the New Media Film Festival in L.A. on June 5 – 6, 2024. I’ve been invited to do a Q&A to discuss my script on June 6.

I’ve also turned some of my scripts into gripping novellas and short stories, adding even more layers to the storytelling experience. They are available on Amazon.

Going forward, I’m just excited to keep writing original stories that connect with people. For updates on what I’m up to next, you can swing by my website at https://joannerose.com/ or catch me on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/joanneroseofficial/
