While a sizeable portion of the issues arise from production problems or casting mismatches, picking the right game is crucial to the viability of a big screen release. Here are our top three video games that would make for incredible films.
Ticket To The Stars
There are a lot of picks in the casino genre of games, many that could offer adventure, drama, or an intriguing setting. But there’s one in particular that offers all three at the same time. As a favourite of many online casino enthusiasts, Ticket to the Stars can be found as a bigger game at SkyCity Casino. Part of the reason for its popularity and part of the reason we think it would make for such a good film is the aesthetic and setting the game portrays. The title takes the player to an exotic planet so they can gamble.
A skilled writer could pen up a comedy or family adventure that centred on a protagonist that is drawn into an intergalactic gambling ring during an exciting game of poker. The drama could then be built as the hero journeys across the galaxy competing in games to become the best intergalactic player ever. It could be the mashup of Star Wars and Vegas Vacation nobody knew we needed.
Elden Ring
Taking a game that George R. R. Martin helped write and giving it the red carpet treatment seems so obvious, yet there are still no talks about making this game into a film. Why? Well, we believe part of the reason comes from the plot.
If you’ve played a Soulsbourne game, you know that much of the story and lore is picked up from text attached to items in the game. It’s certainly not dialogue heavy, and some writers/directors might be scared to mess with that. However, because a mind like Martin’s has taken on the challenge of writing for Elden Ring, you could get him on board to write a story based on one of the characters in the game.
If you choose a fan-favourite villain or hero and flesh out their backstory in the style of the Game of Thrones writer, you could have a huge hit on your hands. Just be sure the writing plays well with the lore set up in the game. Elden Ring didn’t garner 12 million in sales within its first month to lose what fans have already come to love about it in movie form.

Apex Legends
The League of Legends show on Netflix, Arcane, has done well for itself, winning nine Annie awards this year. However, it wasn’t just the pleasing animation that people loved about the show. It was the wide range of characters backed up by an engaging plot and masterful writing that garnered the show so much attention.
If you take this formula and boil it down to a movie, we could see the same level of success for an Apex Legends movie. Make the plot revolve around a global threat and put the characters on different sides of that threat. As long as the writer gives solid motivation to characters on both sides and the action looks good, game and movie fans alike will fall in love with the result.
So what do you think? What video games do you want to see as a feature-length flick?
