Working Title is back in familiar territory with Mary Queen of Scots, working from a script by former House of Cards showrunner Beau Willimon, and a support cast that includes Guy Pearce, Gemma Chan, Ian Hart, David Tennant, Jack Lowden and Martin Compston, but the main game here are its leading ladies Saoirse Ronan and Margot Robbie, already buzzed about for Golden Globes and Oscars glory. At worst, they’ll get a BAFTA, right? Helming is first time feature director Josie Rourke, but fear not, this is someone with major chops in the theatre world, and it’ll be refreshing seeing this story from the feminine gaze, especially following Shekhar Kapur’s two Elizabeths, which were also produced by Working Title. In cinemas in January.
