Melbourne-shot indie Mrs McCutcheon has been selected to screen in competition at this year’s edition of Germany’s International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, the world’s oldest short film festival.

Helmed by acclaimed theatre director John Sheedy and written by Ben Young (Hounds of Love), the film deals with Tom (Alec Golinger), a ten year old dealing with gender dysphoria who finds friendship with Trevor (Wesley Patten), a kid battling prejudice due to his Aboriginal heritage. Nadine Garner, Virginia Gay, Neil Pigot and Shareena Clanton co-star.

“It is such an honour to have the World premiere of Mrs McCutcheon at Oberhausen. Not only it is the longest running short film festival in the world, but it has a solid reputation for quality and value in the art of filmmaking. It is a highly competitive festival and with more than 7,000 submissions this year we are thrilled to have been selected”, said producer Andre Lima.

A short Australian documentary, Wolfe, directed by Claire Randall, is screening as part of the Children and Youth Competition.

The 63rd International Short Film Festival Oberhausen runs from May 11 – 16. For more info, go to the official site.
