Currently raising funds over on Pozible, #WeLiveHere2017 is an upcoming documentary that looks at the planned demolition of Sydey’s largest public housing estate and the effect this is having on some 5000 disadvantaged residents who will have to relocate.

According to the film’s campaign, “Waterloo is the latest suburb in a long line of public sell-offs to benefit the private purse. The New South Wales state government will demolish the 40-acre site to sell off 70% of the land to private developers, in their quest for ‘social mix’. Waterloo has a hugely diverse cultural mix of 5,000 residents who have already received their ‘relocation’ notices, and are unsure what the near future holds.”

The aim of the film is to give a number of representative residents of the community a voice in the conversation, by telling their stories through film.  The film will also cover the #WeLiveHere2017 Lighting Project, which will give every resident of the Matavai and Turanga towers a mood light, to be installed in tenants’ windows and ultimately create a huge light sculpture set to launch in May 2017.

The documentary project is part of a concerted, wide-ranging program of art and activism designed to bring the plight of the Waterloo residents to prominence in the public eye. Get the full story over on Pozible.
