Actors getting too old for roles is a problem of the past. We’ve already seen Robert Downey Jr. de-aged in Captain America: Civil War (2016), and back a few years ago, Brad Pitt de-aged in The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button (2008). My favourite is in Ant-Man (2015), where Michael Douglas literally looked like he had just walked off the set of Basic Instinct (1992). Now, every star in Hollywood is re-evaluating their futures (and pasts).

gggggggggggg

It looks like Meryl Streep will continue to take every good role for women over 50 for the rest of her life. The rumours about Chris Pratt playing Indiana Jones in the new Indy films have slowed down, so why not just hire the best man for the job, Harrison Ford? And Meg Ryan is back in business with a new run of romantic comedies to start shooting next year (opposite Bradley Cooper and Channing Tatum).

Box office stars of the past like Kevin Costner, Julia Roberts, and Robert Redford are looking into rejuvenating their careers too. Instead of directors saying, “We need a young Julia Roberts”, they’ll be saying, “Why not just hire Julia Roberts???”

The ever young Tom Cruise has signed on for five more Mission: Impossible films to be shot over the next twenty years, where the 54-year-old will remain in his 40’s for all five films.

Film studios will soon have their lead actors sign “Dead or Alive” contracts. For example, Robert Downey Jr. has signed on for 17 more Iron Man appearances. In the unfortunate event that he dies after the second film (he won’t), Marvel will be able to use his digital likeness for the third film and so on.

It’s been rumoured that Burt Reynolds has been shopping himself around for Cannonball Run re-boots, but studios aren’t taking the bait. But…my favourite outcome of the de-aging digital age is that Sean Connery will come out of retirement to star as the next James Bond.
