The Hitchcock estate and Universal Cable Productions have announced that they’re moving forward with Welcome to Hitchcock, a anthology series in the American Horror Story/True Detective mold that will tell a single Hitchcockian story over the course of each season.

Hitchcock’s granddaughter, Katie O’Connell-Fiala, said, “Our grandfather always collaborated with the best and the brightest to help shape his vision. We’re confident that Universal Cable Productions will take great care in helping us to continue preserving his legacy.”

This is interesting stuff. Obviously it’s not Hitch’s first foray into TV – if you’ve never seen Alfred Hitchcock Presents, you’re doing yourself a disservice – but it’ll be fun to see how the old master’s stylistic and genre concerns fit in with the current media landscape. It’s sometimes easy to forget what a towering figure Hitchcock was, not just to film fans but in the culture at large – he was one of the first real celebrity directors, able to sell a movie on his name alone – now we get to see if that incredibly strong branding has survived into the 21st century.

An airdate has yet to beset, but we’ll keep you posted.
