Co-founded by Michael Donovan, Dana Landrey, Will Morris and the popular actor, Watrfall is offering to $275k in funding for their first slate.
Watrfall will award $150,000 USD to one feature film, $75,000 USD to one TV pilot, and $5,000 USD each to ten projects in development.
“A great idea shouldn’t stall because its creator doesn’t have the right connections,” said producer Michael Donovan. “With $275,000 in First Slate funding, we’re opening another door for filmmakers and writers, and building a model where they can move their projects forward while retaining meaningful ownership and creative control.”
“Audiences have always had opinions about what gets made,” added executive and media entrepreneur Dana Landry, former CEO of DHX Media, now WildBrain. “They’ve rarely had a seat at the table. Watrfall brings them in earlier, to discover projects, connect with the creators behind them and have a voice in which stories move toward funding and production. We want to help creators build a community around their work before it reaches the screen.”
The other players at Watrfall include tech and entertainment entrepreneur Willie Morris and the best known of the lot, actor/producer Ron Perlman (pictured).
Watrfall calls their platform “transparent, creator-led, fan-focused … transforming how film and television projects are funded, selected and brought to audiences … Watrfall connects creators and fans, supports original stories and gives audiences a meaningful role in shaping what gets made.”
Submissions for Watrfall’s first slate close on 15 November, submission fees apply. Creators can submit their projects now at watrfall.com/creators.
Qualifying projects will then be put in front of the Watrfall Community for voting. Top voted projects will move forward with funding and production.
The first 5,000 members of the community will receive various benefits, including 12 months of complimentary project voting access, permanent founding recognition and exclusive experiences, according to Watrfall.
