Boutique independent distributor Iconic Features has adopted Silver Trak Digital’s Media Room for the storage, management and delivery of its master materials, giving the Australian company direct control over how iconic film titles reach broadcasters around the world.

Iconic Features formed in late 2024 to represent content with a legacy of cultural and commercial impact. It launched by taking Crocodile Dundee, Crocodile Dundee II and the official authorised documentary Love of an Icon: The Legend of Crocodile Dundee to rest of world markets and has since added The Castle, The Dish and Strictly Ballroom to a catalogue available for licensing internationally.

The company was originally supported by an established distribution delivery house based in Europe. That arrangement changed as the business grew.

“While the European partner was well established, it quickly became apparent that an Australian-based delivery partner offered unique advantages in managing the nuances required for the creation of language versions and transcodes needed to meet specific broadcaster technical specifications,” said Victoria Baldock of Iconic Features. “The expertise and efficiency of the Silver Trak team and Media Room offers invaluable support to Iconic Features.”

Independent distribution at this end of the market depends on precision rather than volume. Iconic Features deliberately curates a small number of titles with lasting appeal and each one carries master materials that must be protected, versioned and delivered to exacting technical standards.

“The reaction from our international broadcast partners to our catalogue has been incredibly positive, with a distinct appeal to license this iconic content outside of large output deals,” Baldock said.

That model creates specific operational demands. A single title may need multiple language versions, each with its own audio and subtitle configurations, delivered to broadcasters operating under different technical specifications. Managing that across scattered storage and manual handoffs invites error, particularly when a distributor is handling several deals at once.

The brief for a delivery platform was detailed from the outset. Iconic Features required efficient, effective and secure storage for the master materials held on behalf of its producers. It wanted the ability to issue upload links to producers, so that material could be ingested without shipping drives or improvising transfers. It needed clearly identifiable mezzanine files, the ability to organise masters into folders with tags and a clear display of file metadata.

Just as importantly, it wanted autonomy. The team needed to action deliveries itself at any hour, to send master files to broadcasters via download link and to work from transparent monthly activity reports that could be reconciled against invoices.

“Most importantly Media Room offers a fully secure system for the upload, storage and delivery of our precious master materials,” Baldock said. “The user interface is clear and incredibly user friendly, allowing us to constantly update and organise our assets in the most efficient way. The ability to self-manage our deliveries with ease is a huge benefit to our workflow.”

In practice, Iconic Features opens a deal by providing its producers with an upload link, which brings master material into Media Room without friction at the point where friction is most costly. The team then reviews and organises the assets, renaming files as required for specific technical specifications and language versions.

When a broadcast partner is identified, Iconic Features requests their technical specifications and reviews them in consultation with the Media Room support team against the specifications and metadata of the assets on hand. Where a transcode is required, it is quoted accurately from an established rate card, with material and delivery costs reflected in the sales agreement. Silver Trak then actions the transcode and the finished file is uploaded to Media Room, ready for delivery.

From there, Iconic Features controls the timing itself. When a delivery trigger is reached, whether that is the execution of a sales agreement or a signature payment, the file is sent to the broadcaster as a download link through the interface. Where a partner requires Aspera, Media Room supports that route as well and the Media Room team assists in establishing the necessary portal logins.

The operational gains show up immediately in the company’s relationship with its buyers. “The ease and speed of processing and actioning our own deliveries offer much-improved efficiency to our broadcast partners,” Baldock said.

Asked to name the standout feature, Baldock points to usability and to one capability that has become part of the sales conversation. “The ease of the interface. It is completely logical and user friendly,” she said. “The analytics available for the delivery of screening files are also extremely valuable for our sales process.”

That visibility into screening activity tells Iconic Features who is watching what and when, which is precisely the intelligence a distributor needs to follow up on a title while interest is live.

The commercial case extends to confidence and cost control. “Using Media Room enables Iconic Features to offer a secure, reliable, efficient and well-priced delivery service to our broadcast partners in which we have 100 percent confidence,” Baldock said. “The transparency of Media Room invoicing is also of huge value to Iconic Features. The monthly activity reports are itemised very clearly for reconciliation of delivery costs.”

Perhaps the most significant benefit is the one that shaped the company’s commercial approach. “Perhaps of most value to Iconic Features is the support offered by the Media Room team in the set-up of the process, the rate card and the continual assistance in reviewing specific broadcast technical specs,” Baldock said.

“Establishing Media Room as our delivery service has enabled Iconic Features to have a deep understanding of the requirements to meet various technical specifications and thus correctly quote material and delivery costs, based on our established rate card, to our broadcast partners within our licensing deals. This enables Iconic Features to offer complete transparency to our Producers regarding distribution costs.”

For a boutique distributor, that transparency is a competitive asset. Producers weighing representation want to know where their money goes and what distribution genuinely costs. A platform that makes those figures quotable and a rate card that makes them consistent, turns a back-office function into part of the pitch.

Iconic Features now runs its international deliveries across six Australian titles of enduring cultural weight, from a Sydney base, on infrastructure it controls.
