On the evening of October 16th, the Shot On Shit Film Festival (S.O.S.) will be held in Sydney’s Inner West.
Yes, the title may sound a bit strange… but the concept of the whole event is essentially a showcase of short films made by local creatives that don’t need big budgets, fancy equipment, or massive teams. Instead, they’re encouraged to submit a film that they’ve made in the last year, shot on complete shit: think old digi-cams, pre-2010 camera phones, shitty webcams, a home-security device, outdated animation methods, etc. etc.
The aim of the festival is to encourage creativity, despite monetary and technological means – and get people to explore and experiment with storytelling in unconventional ways. The showcase is in its third iteration and currently is taking submissions for the festival, with entries closing on the 25th of September.
Submissions, entry on the night, and all participation will be completely FREE, to maximise accessibility.
There will be several awards and prizes for filmmakers, presented on the night, and dictated by both the audience and a select jury, members include:

Kristen Settinelli (Producer – Salt Along The Tongue)
Nick Annas (Director/Writer/Actor – Crashout)
About Shot on Sh!t Film Festival
S.O.S was born out of a simple principle; what if you made a short film with the worst camera you own? Through such limitations, what freedom can you discover? Can we make ugly beautiful again? At The Collective of Underground Movie Lovers, we believe in meaning over means. So, we made a short film festival that demands people pick up their digicams, phones, security cameras, and everything else in between to see what happens. This event is entirely free; no submission fee, no entry fee, no prior filmmaking experience required! Expect low fidelity, peaking highlights, digital noise, and the very best of DIY filmmaking.

About The Collective of Underground Movie Lovers
Founded in 2023, The Collective of Underground Movie Lovers evolved from a student film club into a community of filmmakers and enjoyers alike. Since our uni days, we have hosted screenings at the AGNSW, Ritz Cinema, SXSW Sydney, Pink Flamingo Cinema, and have hosted our DIY Film festival (now named S.O.S) twice before.
