In a bold Australian launch, audiences will be able to watch Citizen Vigilante FREE on X for 24 hours from midday Wednesday, 2 September.

One of the year’s most talked-about independent films is coming to Australia—and for its first 24 hours, audiences won’t have to pay a cent to see what all the controversy is about.

From 12 noon AEST on Wednesday, 2 September, Citizen Vigilante, starring Armie Hammer and written and directed by provocative filmmaker Uwe Boll, will be available to watch FREE on X for 24 hours, giving Australian audiences the opportunity to make up their own minds about the film that has divided viewers around the world.

The special free Australian launch follows the extraordinary international attention surrounding Citizen Vigilante after Elon Musk personally endorsed the film on X and made it available to millions of users for 48 hours, triggering widespread debate across social media and reigniting discussion around both the film and Hammer’s return to the screen.

Now Australian audiences get their turn.

For 24 hours only, they can watch the film free on X before Citizen Vigilante continues its Australian release on Digital.

Not surprisingly, reactions to the film have been fiercely divided. Some have praised Citizen Vigilante as a bold, uncompromising thriller that asks uncomfortable questions about crime, justice and vigilantism, while others have criticised its confronting themes and controversial subject matter. Either way, it has become one of the most talked-about independent releases of the year.

Hammer stars as Sanders, a man who takes the law into his own hands by hunting violent criminals, quickly becoming a hero to some and a dangerous threat to others. As his popularity grows, an international manhunt begins to stop him before his movement spirals out of control. Hammer’s return to the screen has generated worldwide attention, with the actor recently reflecting on his comeback: “I feel so lucky and fortunate that I get to do again the thing that feels like what I’m supposed to do. It’s what I love. It’s the thing that makes my soul happy.”

Written and directed by Boll, whose films have never shied away from controversy, Citizen Vigilante continues that tradition, challenging audiences to decide where justice ends and vigilantism begins.

Writer, director and producer Uwe Boll said he expected the film to divide audiences. “It was clear that the film would split the audience, but I never cared about reviewers – I care about the audience. And the audience response speaks for itself, with the Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes sitting at over 90%.”

Whether audiences embrace it or reject it, Citizen Vigilante is already proving to be one of the year’s most polarising releases.

WATCH FREE FOR 24 HOURS Citizen Vigilante will be available to watch FREE on X from 12 noon AEST Wednesday, 2 September for 24 hours only. The film will also be available to Buy or Rent on Digital in Australia from 2 September.
