Netflix’s high-octane thriller Extraction 3 starring Chris Hemsworth, Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani will call NSW home, as production begins on the South Coast this week.
Set to create 450 local jobs and contribute an estimated $127 million to the state’s screen industry and broader economy, the production will be shot across the South Coast of NSW and Sydney throughout the next few months.
Under the direction of Sam Hargrave (Extraction 1 & 2, Matchbox the Movie) and based on a screenplay by David Weil (Citadel, Tyrant), the film is produced by AGBO’s Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, Michael Disco, and Ari Costa; Wild State’s Chris Hemsworth and Benjamin Grayson; along with Sam Hargrave, Patrick Newall, Eric Gitter, and Peter Schwerin. Steven V. Scavelli and Shelby Malone serving as Executive Producers.
Director Sam Hargrave noted: “We’re very much looking forward to filming the third chapter in our Extraction saga here in New South Wales. Our goal has always been to push the boundaries of action filmmaking, and with Extraction 3, we’re taking our biggest swing yet.”
Producer Patrick Newall said: “We have had tremendous cooperation from Minister Burke, Peter Ernst, Head of Regional Ports, Port Authority NSW, Jason Potkins Director, Screen Incentive Sections at The Office of the Arts,” notes Newall. “We’ve also had help at every turn from Minister Paul Scully, MP Allison Burns, and Minister John Graham, as well as Screen New South Wales. This is a big movie and these invaluable partners have all helped make our production here possible.”
The arrival of Extraction 3 marks a major moment for the NSW creative community, providing critical roles for domestic cast and technical staff, while supporting secondary industries including security, hospitality, and logistics.

This production is supported by the Australian Government’s Location Offset and the Made in NSW Fund via Screen NSW. Launched in 2020, the Made in NSW Fund, managed by Screen NSW, promotes the state as a premiere global destination for high-end television and feature film production.
