Once a long-running joke with gut-busting punchlines like Double Dragon, Wing Commander, Doom and BloodRayne, the video game adaptation movie has undergone a major rebirth thanks to big hits like The Super Mario Brothers, A Minecraft Movie and Sonic The Hedgehog, critical darlings like The Last Of Us and Fallout, and cult faves like Mortal Kombat. Now comes the new take on Street Fighter (yes, it was done before, with Jean-Claude Van Damme and Kylie Minogue in Queensland, no less), and it looks like, well, an absolute belter. Boasting bone-crunching action scenes, a jokey tone, and a truly wacky cast (apparent future Rambo Noah Centineo, rapper 50 Cent, the much-loved David Dastmalchian, comedian and TV host Eric Andre, WWE star Cody Rhodes, Warrior‘s Andrew Koji, masked country singer Orville Peck and Jason fucking Momoa as an added bonus), we’re tipping Street Fighter to be a major hit and franchise starter. But if it flops and turns out to be another Max Payne, we didn’t say that, okay?
