And here’s a bigger look at the upcoming Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. What seems to be a pretty thin plot (magical creatures escape into New York City, Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander has to re-capture ’em) is leavened by what is, let’s just admit it, a welcome return to JK Rowling’s detailed world of modern magic.
What’s going to be interesting is that this is the first Potterverse movie to focus on adult characters. How is that going to affect the tone of the film? So far there’s nothing to be seen that is explicitly not kid-friendly, but can we expect a more mature take on the wizarding world? “Mature” being a term we use advisedly in a universe of house elves and whomping willows.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits Australian cinemas on November 17, 2016.
