Yes, DC/Warner have absolutely slayed at San Diego Comic Con this year, but it’s not like Marvel have been goofing off, either, and here’s a fresh look at the upcoming Doctor Strange movie to prove it.

There’s a real sense of scale at work here, and a palpable weirdness, in the old school sense of the world. Marvel’s previous stabs (Thor, pretty much) at magic have tried to moor the notion to rationality via Clarke’s Law*, but this seems to have gone right out where the buses don’t run in terms of showing us a big, gaudy, psychedelic world of ancient seers and battling mages.

Doctor Strange hits Australian cinemas on October 27.

 

*Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
