Arterial Films is pleased to announce that The Run will have its world premiere at the 2025 Adelaide Film Festival.
The Run is the first narrative feature from writer‑director Stephen de Villiers and producer Chloe Gardner. It is a dystopian thriller set in a near‑future Australia gripped by lockdowns and a global infertility crisis. The film follows an ageing smuggler (Callan Mulvey) and a runaway teenager (Charlotte Maggi) as they fight to protect the first newborn in years – with ruthless enemies closing in, determined to take the baby.
Shot entirely in South Australia, the film features striking cinematography by Michael Tessari (Monolith, With or Without You), recipient of a 2024 ACS National Award of Distinction and 2024 ACS Gold Award, and post‑production headed by Wilson Tran (The Burnt Half, Finding Jia, recent Ellie nominee), a rising South Australian talent and Head of Post‑production at Watchpost.
Ensemble Cast
Callan Mulvey (Mystery Road: Origin, Avengers: Endgame, The Winter Soldier, The Gray Man), Charlotte Maggi (The Surfer, Rebel Moon), Felix Cameron (Boy Swallows Universe) — 2024 Silver Logie winner, AACTA Award winner (Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series), Nicholas Hope (Bad Boy Bubby, Inhuman Resources) — AACTA-winning icon of Australian cinema, Tim Phillipps (Neighbours, Once Upon a Time), Joe Romeo (Firebite), Taylor Wiese (Top End Wedding, Danger Close)
