A New Documentary Series from Acclaimed Director Jye Currie.

Australia is facing an environmental crisis. With the highest extinction rate of native flora and fauna in the world, the race to protect our fragile ecosystems is more urgent than ever. In response, Green Frog Productions and director Jye Currie announce SCENT, a groundbreaking new documentary series that captures the work of Australia’s most remarkable frontline defenders, conservation detection dogs and their handlers.

Shot with cinematic scale and emotional intimacy, SCENT follows two core storylines that reveal both the beauty and fragility of the Australian landscape.

A Breed of Conservationists

On one front, SCENT embeds with Wildlife Detection Dogs, a conservation organisation led by Adam Blundell and fielded by elite dog handler Isaac Blundell. Their mission: to locate and protect dwindling koala populations and monitor habitats before they’re lost forever. Armed only with instinct, grit, and an unmatched bond with their dogs, this team is doing what technology can’t, finding life before it disappears.

“These dogs are capable of finding thing humans just can’t” Adam Blundell.

Biosecurity on the Brink

Simultaneously, SCENT follows Tate Animal Training Enterprises, led by renowned trainers Ryan and Jen Tate, whose dogs are on the frontlines of biosecurity. These canines are trained to detect deadly pathogens and invasive species threatening Australia’s biodiversity and agriculture.

“These pathogens are the single biggest threat to our natural landscape,” says Ryan Tate. “If we don’t detect and contain them early, they have the power to wipe out ecosystems and change the face of Australia forever.”

Entertainment Company: Green Frog

Green Frog Productions is led by film director Jye Currie, a bold new voice in Australian cinema. With a growing reputation for emotionally charged, socially conscious storytelling, Currie is carving out a space where art meets impact. His debut documentary The Promise was praised for its raw emotional honesty, while his upcoming fiction feature One Chance scheduled for production continues his signature blend of realism, emotional impact and poetic depth. With SCENT, Currie unveils a visually striking and Australian series that signals a new era in Australian documentary storytelling.

“After filming the pilot, I’ve been genuinely blown away by the passion and purpose these handlers and their dogs bring to their work. This is a story most Australians don’t know and yet it impacts all of us. To witness it firsthand, and to have the privilege of telling the story, feels deeply special. They say dogs are man’s best friend, but in SCENT, they’re also guardians of our land, our wildlife, and our future.” Jye Currie

What makes SCENT truly stand out is its bold cinematic approach. Shot with the precision and beauty of a feature film, the series breaks free from the traditional documentary format to deliver a deeply immersive and emotionally resonant experience. At its heart are the extraordinary bonds between handlers and their dogs, relationships built on trust, instinct and purpose. With exclusive access to active conservation and biosecurity missions across Australia, SCENT unfolds in real time, capturing high-stakes environmental efforts as they happen. It is a story rooted in Australian soil, but with global urgency, speaking to anyone who cares about nature, climate and the powerful connection between humans and animals.

Pilot Completed: Season One Begins

Following the completion of a 35-minute pilot episode, Green Frog Productions is now moving into pre-production on the first full season of SCENT. Filming is taking place across New South Wales, Queensland, and Western Australia, with exclusive stories including koala surveys, pathogen detection, and invasive species containment efforts. The puppies featured in the pilot, some as young as eight weeks, are already beginning their transformation into working conservation dogs. Currie and his team are capturing their development in real time, making this series not only timely but historically significant.
