Fox is apparently pulling the trigger on a live action television series set in the same increasingly muddled universe as their X-Men film franchise.
The as-yet-untitled series will follow two parents who discover their kid is a mutant and must navigate a ind of mutant Underground Railroad while dodging hostile government forces. Bryan Singer, director of four X-Men movies – two of them good – will executive produce, along with Jim Chory, Simon Kinberg, Jeph Loeb and Lauren Shuler Donner.
Well, this is certainly interesting news – the X-Men comics are one big, interconnected soap opera at their best, and that certainly lends itself to serial television, but the touted notion of being in the same continuity as the movies is a bit underwhelming – the X-Men films are barely connected to each other these days, so the philatelic thrill of being able to connect the dots between these things is absent. Besides, its not like Hugh Jackman or Patrick Stewart are gonna be swinging by for cameos. Hell, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. cant even swing Jeremy Renner.
More as it emerges.
