Miranda Tapsell will reunite with her The Sapphires director Wayne Blair for Top End Wedding, a project she was co-written with Joshua Tyler. Goalpost Pictures Australia announced that the film will go into production in early 2018 following investment funding from Screen Australia. Goalpost’s Rosemary Blight and Kylie du Fresne, along with Kojo Entertainment’s Kate Croser will produce, with Glen Condie and Ben Grant taking on executive producer duties.
As it says in the release, “This hilarious and heart-warming comedy is the story of successful Sydney lawyer, Lauren (Tapsell, we assume), and her fiancée Ned. Engaged and in love, they have just 10 days to find Lauren’s mother who has gone AWOL somewhere in the Northern Territory, reunite her parents and pull off their dream Top End Wedding.”
This is the second major Northern Territory production announced today, with Stephen Johnson’s High Ground also slated for a 2018 top end shoot. Northern Territory Chief Minister, Michael Gunner said: “The NT Government is very pleased to help bring the Top End Wedding movie concept to reality. Our support is a sign of our belief that the movie will showcase Australia’s most magnificent scenery to a global audience. Miranda and Josh have captured the real Top End showcasing our modern city, our contemporary culture and the raw and hilarious essence of the NT in this fun for the whole family movie. We look forward to welcoming the cast and crew to our backyard.”
