The film is based on a screenplay by Probir Dutt and will be co-directed by Dutt and Davini Malcolm. Dutt’s first feature film was The Three Ages of Sasha. Malcolm is a veteran actress of the stage and screen, here making her directorial debut, as well as taking on acting and producing duties.
The film is notable for having six leading roles for women. The cast is led by Davini Malcolm and Mariah Mannae as Lulu and Stephanie Finchampstead. Joining them is Carolyn Bock as Ginni, Luca Sardelis as Layla, Brooke Lee as Vee, Wallis Murphy-Munn as Virginia, and Sophia Jean as Louisa. The women are joined by Frankie J Holden and Dennis Coard in the roles of Stanley and James.
“The first time I read the screenplay it moved me on so many different emotional levels, I read it all in one sitting and I knew immediately it was a special project,” said Mariah Mannae. “We really wanted to showcase a powerhouse ensemble cast of incredible Australian talent that would bring this story to life.”
Actor Jordan Fraser-Trumble, who was recently seen in the Australian independent thriller The Cost, also produces.
The film’s soundtrack will be composed by co-director Probir Dutt and Australian Idol winner Damien Leith. Cinematography will be handled by Martine Wolff.
