From Illumination, the pixel-happy crew behind the likes of Despicable Me and Minions, comes Sing, a new animated musical that mashes up Zootopia and the terrible television talent show of your choice, hopefully with better results than the latter (but probably not the former.
Starring Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, John C. Reilly, Taron Egerton and Tori Kelly, Sing sees a desperate koala (McConaughey) try to save his failing theatre by staging an open-to-all-comers singing competition. In this case, all comers includes Taron Egerton’s pining gorilla, Reese witherspoon’s put-upon house-pig, and Scarlet Johansson’s rocking porcupine.
It looks charming. Taron Egerton is literally a gorillagram – that’s got to be worth seeing. Sing hits Australian cinemas on December 26, 2016.
