Nida Manzoor, best known for her subversive and delightful sitcom We Are Lady Parts, which followed the adventures of a British Muslim punk band, is bringing her first feature Polite Society to Sundance 2023.
Ria Khan (Priya Kasara), a would-be stunt woman, believes that she must save her older sister Lena (Ritu Arya) from her impending marriage. After enlisting her friends’ help, she attempts to pull off the most ambitious of all wedding heists, in the name of independence and sisterhood, fighting the dominating mother of the groom (Nimra Bucha), who may or may not be hiding something sinister.
Polite Society looks to be a whirlwind cross-genre experience that breathes excitement and is bursting Manzoor’s trademark feminist ideas and incisive commentary on the British Asian experience.
