This really does look like a total slam dunk. Drawing on Polynesian mythology, Moana tells the story of the titular princess, voiced by Auli’i Cravalho, and her adventures with Hawaiian culture hero, Maui, who sounds a lot like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Other than that, not much is known about the actual plot, but we can say it looks absolutely gorgeous. Also of note: Hamilton legend Lin-Manuel Miranda, who just cleaned up at this year’s Tony Awards, is contributing a few tunes, and none other than Hunt for the Wilderpeople‘s Taikia Waititi gave the script a polish, which can only be a good thing.
Moana hits Australian cinemas on Boxing Day.
