Hot on the heels of the film opening the Cannes Film Festival comes the trailer for Cafe Society, the latest intellectual comedy manners from writer and director Woody Allen.
Jesse Eisenberg is Allen’s alter ego this time around – and isn’t that just a perfect fit? – here playing a young Jewish New Yorker (shocker) who is transplanted to Los Angeles circa 1930-ish, where he gets entangled in the social games of the glitterati. Kristen Stewart, Steve Carrell, Blake Lively, Parker Posey, and Paul Schneider co-star. The film’s period/entertainment world setting should provide plenty of easy grist for Allen’s mill, so odds are good that if you like his stuff, you’ll like the stuff that’s coming.
Cafe Society gets an Australian release on September 1.
