Featuring a game Joaquin Phoenix as the titular Beau, this film looks to continue Aster’s unpredictable evolution as a filmmaker. Aster’s previous outing – the folk horror Midsommar – was peppered with some dark laughs, but Beau is Afraid is a full-tilt surrealist comedy.
Previously titled Disappointments Blvd, this looks to be a departure for Aster, but fans who want him to stay in his spooky lane shouldn’t be too concerned, as this trailer alone contains more nightmare fuel than most horror features. Supporting Phoenix on his epic journey are Nathan Lane, Patti LuPone, Amy Ryan, Richard Kind, Denis Menochet, Michael Gandolfini, Zoe Lister-Jones and Parker Posey. Check out the trailer below:
