In this article, we’ll mention three of the best casino-themed movies that we recommend watching, although it’s not easy to pick just three from a collection of dozens of good casino-themed movies. If you haven’t seen them by now, it’s time to organise a movie night. For your info, these films have inspired many online gambling sites such as Australian online slots casino Syndicate.

Casino (1995)

This is an early epic drama from famous film director Martin Scorsese. Based on Casino: Love and Honor in Las Vegas, Nicholas Pileggi’s wonderful non-fiction, this movie is full of stars. Some of the big names include Joe Pesci, Sharon Stone, and the one and only Robert de Niro. This film tells the story of Sam “Ace” Rothstein, a high-ranking gambler called in by the Italian mafia to oversee the day-to-day operations of a Las Vegas casino.

Big business has yet to enter Las Vegas. New York mafia families have run much of the city’s gambling market. Ace (de Niro) is a Las Vegas casino operator with a connection to the mob, but lives a seemingly normal and civilised life with his family. However, when Santoro (Pesci) lands in the city, Ace’s life is turned upside down. Interestingly, Santoro is his childhood friend and is now a well-known lynch master for the mob.

Casino is considered one of the best Martin Scorsese movies. It is also an “old school” movie. The opening credits are designed by the famous Saul Bass, who previously worked on Alfred Hitchcock films. The film was shot in the Riviera casino in Las Vegas and according to the real Ace Rothstein, it is perfectly accurate and faithful to the actual events. The film offers an up-close view of Las Vegas during the ’70s and paints a realistic portrait of what is happening behind the scenes. It shows both sides of the game in Las Vegas: the cruel and brutal treatment that takes place behind the scenes, juxtaposed with the glitz and glamor often displayed by mainstream media.

Casino Royale (2006)

Casino Royale follows the exploits of James Bond (aka 007, played by Daniel Craig) as he tries to defeat Le Chiffre (Mads Mikkelsen), a well-known financier of terrorist organisations. After learning that Le Chiffre wants to use high-stakes poker to raise money for terrorist activities, MI6 enlists Mr. Bond’s help in trying to beat him at the poker table. Bond not only displays surprising deception strategies, but also manages to take down Le Chiffre’s organisation.

21 (2008)

Directed by Australian Robert Luketic and starring Kevin Spacey, the film is inspired by the true story of the MIT blackjack team, as told in Bringing Down the House, Ben Mezrich’s most popular book. It is based on a true story of 6 MIT students who were taught how to count cards by their unconventional math teacher Micky Rosa (played by Kevin Spacey). After several weekend trips to Las Vegas, they eventually took the Strip casinos for millions of dollars in blackjack winnings.

It can be a bit difficult to find a gambling movie with a true story that is packed with suspense, emotion, and 21 is one of those movies, serious but at the same time comical.
