This is an industry which has repeatedly sought out new avenues of exploration to draw users into the fun, and which appeals to a huge quantity of fans of other forms of media in some very visible ways. In this article we’ll go over just a few of our favourite slots which are based on film properties, and why we consider these entries special.
Ted
From the mind of Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane comes the story about a foul-mouthed but ultimately lovable little teddy bear brought to life. This is a slot game which really stands out because of the sheer amount of content on offer. With dozens of high-quality voice clips, bonus games and graphics directly inspired by the films, and the ability to constantly make us laugh, we have to point to this as a film inspired slot game done right. Note that some of the Family Guy and other related cartoon based slot games you can find on websites like Joefortune are of similarly high quality, which makes us wonder just who over at Fox is responsible for such amazing quality control.
Grease

One of the films whose catch songs have well-stood the test of time, and inspired reimaginings. The quality of this game comes in two parts – the look and the music. The graphics of this game are heavily digital, which is not something we tend to associate with the film, but they are designed in such a way that they manage to evoke the feel of the late 1950s, especially when it comes to classic Americana. This is aided by the music, much of which is lifted directly from our favourite scenes. Guaranteed to get stuck in your head, but in a good way.
Indiana Jones

Some films lend themselves better to the idea of unlocking treasures than others, and we’d be hard-pressed to find any as well suited or as established as Indiana Jones. This globe-trotting adventurer has a couple of games based on his property, The Well of Souls and The Treasure of the Incas. Both of these games are real standouts when it comes to quality of both look and feel. Relying on a combination of ruin-inspired layout and enticing treasure, these games are rare among all slot games, not just those informed by film style.
Honourable Mention: Aliens
While this slot game is not currently available, due to licensing issues, we’d feel remiss if we didn’t at least acknowledge it in this list. Aliens used to be perhaps the best example of a film based slot game, with amazing visuals and sound, and one of the most engaging bonus systems we have ever seen. This slot almost felt like a regular video game, and it managed to successfully combine the feel of terror from the Xenomorph and the thrill of near escapes and winning big. Not an easy task, and a slot which we hope to see again in the future.
