Tinder, being the world’s most popular dating app, rarely comes up with something new. If we try to recall the most significant updates on Tinder in recent years, the only thing that attracts attention is the introduction of video chat which was introduced in 2020. Otherwise, there were practically no high-profile updates.

The situation changed significantly in mid-December 2022 — the developers of Tinder introduced a new feature to users known as Relationship Goals (dating purpose). It is much more important than most people think. Let’s take a closer look at this feature, talk about its real benefits, and try to understand if it’s really something new!

Relationship Goals: principles of work

In fact, the Relationship Goals feature allows users to display their dating goals directly on their profile. Other users can see these goals, and thanks to this, one can build a dating strategy more correctly. Most importantly, users immediately understand whether there is a chance for a relationship with this person or not.

There are currently several dating goals available on Tinder to choose from:

  • long-term relationship;
  • long-term relationship, but ready for short-term;
  • short-term relationship, but ready for a long-term;
  • short-term relationship;
  • new friends;
  • still deciding.

The purpose of the relationship is displayed on Tinder as a coloured banner under the “About me” section. This block is very noticeable and catches the eye immediately. Thus, you will not miss it by going to the account of the person of interest.

Is Relationship Goals feature something really new?

Actually, it’s not. Similar functionality has long been available in other popular dating apps such as Bumble and Hinge. According to the developers, Relationship Goals is an attempt to “shake up” the audience a bit, especially, the younger generation at the age of 18-25 years. This category of users in the majority (about 73%) seeks to clearly understand what their potential partners want. Also, in a recent test of the Relationship Goals feature, more than half of the users added relationship goals to their profiles.

However, let’s be honest: these days, there are many other ways to determine the real goals of users on dating sites. Usually, this is very easy to do if you follow the basic recommendations.

  1. Communicate via video: This is the easiest and most reliable way to understand what kind of person is in front of you and what their true goals are before chatting with them via video. You can do this on Tinder too, but we advise you to save your time and use random video chats — Omegle or popular Omegle alternatives such as https://omegle.chat/, ome.tv, camsurf.com, and others. Each alternative to Omegle allows you to chat face-to-face just like in real life and better understand what they expect from your acquaintance. Additionally, it saves a lot of time!
  2. Approach the choice of the site more seriously: Not every dating service is suitable for serious dating. If we talk specifically about Tinder, then it has long formed the image of the application for “dating for one-night stands.” Many users do not aim for serious dating and relationships. Also, it’s actually a very big problem, because the current situation greatly undermines the credibility of both the platform itself and its users. You might just stop believing that it’s possible to find love on Tinder.
  3. Ask directly about the purpose of dating: Sometimes it can be quite difficult to find the right moment for such a question, but you still need to ask at some point. Sometimes, it may seem to you that a person is set for a serious relationship and completely open to you, but in the end, it turns out that he does not need a relationship. It happens the other way around — a person communicates with you only as a friend, although they dream of a romantic relationship. Therefore, try to clarify this point as early as possible so as not to waste time on unpromising communication.
  4. If possible, explore the social networks of a potential partner. No dating app or Omegle alternative will give you a 100% objective picture of a person. Of course, social networks won’t give it either. At least, they will help you to get to know your potential partner better. For example, to see which public they are subscribed to, who they have on their friends’ list, what they publish on their page, and what posts of other users they comment on. If the person in the account doesn’t share links to their social networks, you can try searching by name or photo. Perhaps this is how you find it on Facebook, Instagram, and other social networks.
  5. Be wary of people who actively talk about previous relationships: Usually, people who talk about past relationships all the time are not the best partners. They constantly look back, look for their own mistakes, or list their partner’s mistakes. Either way, it’s not good for you. Certainly, the topic of previous relationships can be raised sooner or later. However, if a person starts raising it literally from the beginning of your acquaintance, we advise you to be very careful.
  6. Do not delay having the first meeting offline: A serious problem with online dating is the risk of missing the right moment for a real meeting. If you miss it, all communication might quickly come to naught. Also, you will lose your chance to be with a wonderful person. Therefore, we once again recommend using Omegle alternatives for the first acquaintance. After them, it’s much easier to tune in to an offline date and prepare for it. After all, you already know what the person looks like, and how they talk and behave during a conversation.
  7. Notice how proactive the interlocutor behaves: Being proactive is a good sign in most cases. It means that the person is really interested in you and has ambitious plans. If you see that they are absolutely passive, and they are very reluctant to respond to your proposals for a meeting offline with various excuses, nothing serious will probably work with your communication. The interlocutor simply does not have a goal to find their love, or they do not see themselves right next to you. It’s unpleasant to realise, but you need to remember that it’s impossible to please everyone.

Summary

Certainly, Tinder’s Relationship Goals feature can help thousands of people find new friends or love more efficiently on the app. However, that doesn’t make this feature truly revolutionary or unique, as it’s far from new to the dating industry.

If you use Tinder specifically for dating, then the Relationship Goals is definitely worth using. Nonetheless, if you prefer other dating services or video chats like Omegle, you don’t have to completely switch to Tinder just because of this feature. This is definitely not a game-changer that changes the very principles of online dating. Therefore, we look forward to the next updates and hope for more original innovations!
