Well, this flew in under the radar.

Zhang Yimou, one of the greatest directors currently working, is making an English-language epic wherein Matt Damon, Andy Lau, Willem Defoe, and Pedro Pascal fight giant monsters in medieval China. It’s called The Great Wall because, as any student of history can tell you, The Great Wall of China was built as a barrier against giant monster attacks.*

How great does this look! Yimou’s use of colour is on fleek as ever, the sense of scale is incredible and, y’know, giant freaking monsters. What’s not to like?

The Great Wall was originally slated for release in 2016, but due to inevitable heavy effects work, the China/USA co-pro hits Australian cinemas on February 16, 2017.

*This is a lie. Don’t use this on a test.
