Traditionally that is a relationship that works the other way, with video games taking their inspiration from the silver screen. At the time of writing plans are in place for film adaptations of Days Gone, Minecraft and Metal Gear Solid to name but a few.
Those adaptations however are not the focus of today’s article, instead we are shining the light on the best movie inspired games to have ever been released. Read on to find out which games have made out Top 5 and let us know in the comments section below whether you agree with our choices.
- Jurassic Park Gold
The spread of online casino culture in recent years has made it impossible for us to airbrush online slots from this list. Every year billions of pounds are spent on spinning the virtual slot machine reels and one of the most enduring genres is movies.
Whilst there is a veritable bounty of film inspired slots to choose from, one that caught our eye was Jurassic Park Gold. It is an officially licensed Jurassic Park game replete with all the icons and music from the original film to get those nostalgic juices flowing.
What makes it even more appealing is the fact that it can be played for free too and that the free version still has plenty of cash prizes on offer.

- The Lord of the Rings: Two Towers
Kids today will never know the angst that millennials felt in between seeing this film at the cinema for the first time and waiting for the DVD to be released. The one crumb of comfort that we all had was that the game had come out a whole month before the movie.
Which meant if you loaded up your PlayStation 2, Game Boy Advance, GameCube or Xbox you could control Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli and play out some of the most exciting and exhilarating scenes from The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers.
(The ‘surprisingly good’ description in this video’s title does the game a disservice!)
- Alien: Isolation
Writing this article has been a double edged sword, the more we research the greater the nostalgia but the greater the nostalgia, the greater the urge to stop writing altogether and turn on the PlayStation.
This 2014 survival game based 15 years after the events of the 1979 Ridley Scott original is one of the most spine-tingling, goose bump inducing games that we have ever played. Think Metal Gear Solid but with crippling bouts of anxiety interspersed throughout that will leave you feeling a mixture of joy and relief when you reach a checkpoint.
(Maybe don’t play this game at night…)
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
A new console always needs a huge title to not just elevate it to the masses but show off its technical capabilities and the PlayStation 5 got it with this Spider Man title. Sure, we could have picked another Spider-Man title and put it in here but this game hit all the right spots.
Not only was it a more than solid and engaging game, but the graphics and gameplay were and still are out of this world. We’ve rarely had as much fun roaming around a video game as we have with this one.
There’s also an argument to be made that this is the best movie inspired video game ever created in terms of gaming fundamentals. Typically there’s a trade off in quality when it comes to film inspired games but not with this game.
(This game was like a marketing campaign for the PlayStation 5.)
- GoldenEye 007
How could it be anything else? We’d quite simply have been crazy not to put this cult classic game in at Number One. Not only was it ahead of its time in graphics and gameplay, laying the foundations for all first-person shooters to come, but it was so, so fun!
It had some of the best multiplayer modes ever created like the Golden Gun mode and also a cheat that activated the hugely entertaining Big Head Mode. God, what more can we say about one of the most iconic games to have ever been released? Nothing, so we’ll just leave you with this YouTube clip instead.
(Big Head Mode was OP.)
