Now here’s a remake worth getting on board with. Sofia Coppola (The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation) directing a new version of The Beguiled.
The original, directed by the great Don Siegel back in 1971, saw Clint Eastwood’s wounded Union solider holed up in a Southern boarding school during the civil war, and coming unstuck in the heated environment of repressed desires and burgeoning sexuality. The 2017 version swaps in Colin Farrell for Clint, and the school is populated by the likes of Elle Fanning, Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst and Angourie Rice. It looks like a perfect match of director and subject to us.
While The Beguiled is set for a June release in US, no Australian release has yet been announced, but the local talent on board (Kidman, Rice) should at least score an arthouse run.
