Suicide Squad handily took the top slot at the Australian box office on Thursday, raking in an impressive $3,213,153. That makes it the second biggest superhero movie opening this year, behind Batman V Superman ($3.14m) and ahead of both Captain America: Civil War ($3.06m) and Deadpool ($2.94m).
This flies in the face of the film’s general critical derision, but it’ll be interesting to see where the coming weeks take us, as committed fans and general audiences alike either embrace the film or join the critical consensus.
