The wildly popular Netflix-original drama, Stranger Things, will have its Season 2 Australian premiere at the Sydney Opera House on Friday 27 October – that’s at the same time as the LA premiere and hours before the season hits streaming. Best of all, it’s open to fans for free – although spaces are limited.
It sounds like an ageing ’80s kid’s wet dream: “Entering an alternate dimension, super fans will be treated to the supernatural world of the Upside Down, with the Opera House’s Northern and Southern Foyers completely transformed into the world of Hawkins circa 1984, where the second series picks up. Encouraged to dress up for the event, fans can expect to be fully immersed in a banging ‘80s soundtrack, arcade games including pinball machines and air hockey, themed food including Benny’s Burgers and much more.”
Then the first episode of Stranger Things S2 will screen in the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, returning us to the spooky town of Hawkins, Indiana where our stalwart cadre of pre-teen heroes will delve deeper into the mysteries of The Upside Down.
Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Performance, Danielle Harvey, says: “The Duffer Brothers have created a pitch perfect homage to ‘80s celluloid legends like Spielberg and Stephen King that delivers the perfect shot of suspense and nostalgia. We are thrilled to present the world’s biggest Stranger Things fan event as part of the Opera House’s Contemporary Performance program – a home for visionary storytelling in popular culture.”
