“We were snot nosed kids just itching for a beating to be quite honest,” says director Stephen Packer. “You learn a lot about yourself when you get hit in the face.”
So much so that Packer assisted director Jennifer Kent on The Babadook and The Nightingale, has a feature film expansion of Hard Rubbish in the works, and is shooting his next short film, Sick Day, in August.
“3 months on set of a feature film will teach you more than 3 years at film school, and as a directors assistant you get to sit in on so many high level creative discussions – it is the perfect place for a young director who wants to learn,” he said of his work on Jennifer Kent’s iconic films.
